Each year, The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) host a National Nurses Breakfast Campaign to celebrate nurses across Australia on 12 May, International Nurses Day (IND).
The event, proudly supported by HESTA Super, traditionally sees nurses and their supporters hosting a breakfast or get-together at their workplace, university or community centre.
The 2020 Breakfast looks a little different due to restrictions that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the celebrations will proceed in an adapted format.
ACN is encouraging nurses to take time out during IND week to treat themselves to a self-care breakfast. This will look different for all; it can be an opportunity to trial an exciting new recipe, or simply make the time to enjoy a cup of tea in peace.
Register your breakfast with ACN to receive a special photo prop so you can join nurses around the country who will be sharing photos using #ACNBreakfast.
ACN is grateful for the continual support HESTA Super have shown towards the event since 2015. Cameron Doig, HESTA’s General Manager – National Partnerships, highlighted the importance of celebrating the pivotal contribution of nurses to communities in a statement to ACN.
“HESTA is incredibly proud to be supporting the Australian College of Nursing’s National Nurses Breakfast this coming International Nurses Day on Tuesday 12 May. Now more than ever the hugely important role nurses play in our community is highlighted, and we are honoured to be a partner for this very special occasion,” he said.
The 2020 event is especially significant as it falls in a year declared by the World Health Organization as Year of the Nurse & Midwife. It is also a time when nurses and their health care colleagues are standing tall to protect the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ACN encourages all nurses and their supporters to join the celebrations for the special day. We may not be celebrating together physically this year but we can still stay connected!
