The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) is deeply saddened by the death of the Member for Dunkley, Peta Murphy MP.
ACN CEO, Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN, said Peta Murphy made a significant contribution to politics, public life, and her community and constituents.
“She will be remembered fondly for her outstanding personal advocacy for women and health,” Adjunct Professor Ward said.
“Peta used her own experience to passionately campaign for better treatments and policy to help others with breast cancer.
“She was also a great supporter of nurses and nursing.
“As co-convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of Nursing group, Peta hosted two events at Parliament House in recent months to honour nursing scholarship winners and to put the spotlight on issues relating to violence and nursing.
“Peta knew first-hand the value of nursing and used her political position to champion nurses to ensure we are supported to provide leadership and quality care in the Australian health system.
“ACN and all nurses will always remember and value the friendship, support, and advocacy of Peta Murphy.
“She will be greatly missed.”
