The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) congratulates the Victorian Labor Party on its victory in Saturday’s Victorian Election.
ACN CEO Adjunct Professor Kylie Ward FACN said ACN looks forward to continuing to work with Premier Andrews and his team on the issues that matter to the nursing profession and the health of all Victorians.
“I congratulate Premier Andrews on another successful election victory over the weekend,” Adjunct Professor Ward said.
“Nurses in Victoria have given so much in the last few years – risking our own safety and placing our own health and wellbeing on the back burner to lead Victorians through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was pleasing to see nursing feature strongly in many of Labor’s election commitments including the immediate recruitment of 5,000 new nurses and scholarships wiping HECS Fees for prospective nurses working in the public sector.
“As a non-partisan organisation, ACN looks forward to working with the Labor Government and members of the new Parliament to ensure all Victorians have access to equitable health care.
“We are committed to advocating workforce solutions nurses across Victoria are sharing with the ACN Team and myself at forums like the National Nursing Roadshow event in Melbourne.
“These include addressing occupational violence against nurses, leadership development opportunities for nurses of all levels and guaranteeing every nurse everywhere is acknowledged for the leading role we play in shaping the health of Victorians.
“I welcome any member of Premier Andrew’s Team to meet with me to discuss how we can work together to ensure every Australian, regardless of their postcode, has access to high-quality nursing care.
