This unit of study has been designed to enhance the specialist knowledge and skills required by nurses who care for critically ill or injured infants, children, and young people who present to the Emergency Department (ED).
Themes covered within the unit include an introduction to professional practice for emergency nurses, triage and physical assessment, common medical presentations, trauma and injury, mental health presentations and the special needs of infants in the ED.
This unit challenges students to reflect on and develop their nursing practice using contemporary evidence and industry-endorsed clinical practice guidelines, while also making a commitment to providing inclusive and culturally safe professional practice.
