Overview
The Social Determinants of Health in Alcohol and Other Drugs microcredential examines the public health approach to substance use and the interplay between the social determinants of health and the development of substance use problems. The microcredential also explores what is needed when considering prevention and intervention strategies. It is important to understand the impact of international substance use policies on the availability and accessibility of legal and illegal substances. Drug policy is influenced by the research evidence but also by politics, lobby groups, public opinion and opportunity (Lancaster & Ritter, 2011).
