Eastern Health provides services across the largest geographical area of any metropolitan health service in Victoria, covering 2,816 square kilometres. Our comprehensive range of services includes emergency, surgical, medical, and general healthcare, as well as maternity, palliative care, mental health, specialist medicine, drug and alcohol services, residential aged care, community health, and statewide specialist services. We proudly serve diverse communities with varying cultural backgrounds, ages, socio-economic statuses, and healthcare needs across more than 60 locations, including our major campuses.
With a workforce of over 11,000 staff, nursing and midwifery represent our largest group, comprising more than 5,200 professionals. Each year, we welcome 270 graduates to support the growth and sustainability of our nursing and midwifery workforce.
Since becoming a Platinum Affiliate of ACN in June 2016, Eastern Health has leveraged this partnership to support leadership development and professional growth. Initiatives include hosting a Nurse Leadership Development Day for Directors of Nursing and Directors of Learning and Teaching to plan for future leadership needs. In 2024, we are offering 30 Nurse Managers the chance to participate in the “Leaders Mindset Series 2” online modules and engage in improvement projects to enhance leadership and care for our community.
Eastern Health has also had a strong presence at the annual National Nursing Forum, with numerous successful abstract submissions and opportunities to present posters or deliver presentations. Our nurses who attend the Forum return professionally enriched, inspired, and eager to share their knowledge, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
At our 2024 Annual Nursing and Midwifery Awards, we offered winners the chance to attend the National Nursing Forum or receive an annual ACN membership, further encouraging professional development and networking within the ACN community.
Our affiliate membership with ACN continues to provide Eastern Health nurses with opportunities to advance their leadership skills and deliver outstanding care to our community.
