Become a nursing leader of influence with the ACN’s master program
The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) has developed a national Leadership MASTER one-day workshop series, tailored for nurse executives and nurses aspiring to an executive level role. The workshops commence in Sydney on 17 February, with the rest of the program being rolled out across all capital cities.
A component of the organisation’s Leadership@ACN initiative, this program will inspire participants to think critically about health care leadership and find their strategic ‘voice’ as key health executives, to provide improved health care leadership that ensures high quality care in the future.
David Bartlett, former Premier of Tasmania who has undertaken leadership studies at Harvard University, will facilitate the program, sharing his insights on adaptive leadership, which can be practically applied to the nursing work environment, where leadership is fundamental.
Attendees will be engaged in discussion and debate to further develop their leadership skills in how to:
build strategies to influence policy outcomes
understand the political landscape
diagnose the adaptive challenges nurses face
leverage technology in order to become a better leader
develop professional peer-support networks
design effective interventions
orchestrate conflict
Spearheaded by Adjunct Professor Debra Thoms, CEO of ACN, the workshops are a result of the new vision and strategic direction of ACN, advancing nurse leadership to enhance healthcare outcomes for all.
“The health care environment is becoming increasingly complex and there is a clear link between nursing leadership, patient outcomes and recruitment and retention. A nurse’s leadership capability plays a critical role in how health services are delivered to the community
“That’s why we have developed mailto: Leadership@ACN. It’s designed to challenge and support the unique needs of nurses with different levels of experience – be they in a formal leadership role or interested in leadership,” said Professor Thoms.
